A Week Of Love

Where have we been this week? Aside from some server problems and putting some fires out at the office, some excellent radio happening here.

Monday featured a wonderfully touching program about long-term love - in the face of adversity. Everyone I know who heard that show has the same kind of reaction: I hope if I ever face something as difficult as the speaker did that I’ll be able to faithfully and unselfishly love my spouse.

Then a two-day series about how love can survive the heartache and pain of one partner’s infidelity. Here’s a sample response from one listener:

The broadcast today was such a blessing–we have been dealing with something similar for a few years. It was so wonderful to hear someone (with such a hopeful story). Right before I confronted my husband (about his infidelity) I heard a Focus on the Family broadcast that totally changed my approach to him which helped me deal with it in a more godly manner. I’m just so thankful for all the input you put into our family’s life—YOU REALLY MADE A DIFFERENCE TO US.

And to encourage couples during their honeymoon years, these guests know how to make the most of those first twelve months. Great ideas, and pretty unique book!

Radical Islam - Things You Need To Know

An excellent book to get and read:

Security Institute scholar Patrick Sookhdeo examines the roots of jihad from Islamic works past and present, explaining what the concept means in the context of the current war on terror.

Joel Rosenberg is an author and scholar who seems well-positioned to help others understand the times and make sense of current events. His book, Epicenter, is an excellent read.

From citizenlink.com, a special emphasis on becoming knowledgable about the politicization of Islam:

As political forms of Islam rise to greater prominence in the news, and especially in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks and threats, Westerners have many questions. What is Islam? What are its teachings? What is its attitude toward other religions? Is it really a religion of peace and tolerance?

From family.org, some action points for concerned individuals:

1. Be informed
2. Vote
3. Support Israel and the global war on terror
4. Pray for Muslim families worldwide

Finally, get a compelling set of CDs, listen through and pass them along.

Where Is The News Coverage?

I tried something out today: A Google search for islamist, jihadist or islamofascism. There were almost 14,000 references to these words in the news, and many of those items concerned known terrorist activities in other parts of the world.

Not surprisingly, I had a hard time seeing major news organizations in the search results. The big newspapers, the syndicated news services, the mainstream press…all having a hard time reporting on the matter of sworn enemies who are out to kill us and destroy our country.

Then I searched for “Britney Spears.”

You know where this is going, right?

Yes, in our news media there were more than 26,000 recent news items about the self-destructive singer. Almost double the coverage for an entertainment figure with tremeendous personal struggles.

Why is this? Several reasons to point to, I think, and I’ll address a few of them in days to come.

This is an important thing to grasp. Our future is at stake, the world our children will inherit is at great risk, and there is more attention devoted to celebrity gossip than to the pending disaster facing our families. What are we to do?

Michael Youssef speaks plainly about the mindset and theology of extremists who are striving to threaten our nation, our present and our future. If you care about your family, listen in.
