Orphan Care Summit IV
In the pic: Zane and Graham. Both cousins were adopted, and despite some differences, they’re pretty similar in many ways. They surely do get along well - can you tell?
About 10 days ago there were 550 folks - from around the globe - in Fort Lauderdale for a three day conference. The reason they gathered: to see how to work together more effectively in serving the 143 million kids who are fatherless.
As an adoptive dad, I’ve learned a lot about the tremendous needs of orphans - and the many, many good things being done for children who are desparate for a family, for love. The folks who came to Florida are motivated and engaged to impact the lives of these fatherless — and their energy was something to behold!
Here’s some nice blog coverage of the “Summit,” which I was privileged to attend (see the May 6 entry for pics and more).

It really was a pretty special gathering, and everyone there had a heart to touch orphans for eternity. I look forward to seeing how God moves in the days ahead!
Are You Pro-Israel?
Over the years I’ve seen more clearly the miracle that is Israel. There’s seemingly no human reason for that nation to exist! And yet, despite the fierce opposition and the incredible odds the Jewish state persists and thrives. As a Christian, I sense this as I read the sweeping history of this nation in the Old Testament. And as I do, I become more supportive of Israel.
How about you - do you consider yourself “pro-Israel?” If so, what does that mean?
Here’s an interesting quote from someone whose views and understanding of Israel I really respect:
The fact that there’s [still] a Jew on the planet, the fact that Israel is in the news, means that there’s a God who keeps His promises … It’s only the God of the Bible [who] ever said Israel would become a country again; [the Bible] is the only document in human history that said this would happen.”

Racing and…Prayer?
Here’s a link to some photos of Dr. Dobson “on the road” recently. He was invited to a NASCAR event, and the pictures of that day reveal a new fan’s enjoyment of the sport. He prayed at a pre-race gathering.
On May 1 Dr. and Mrs. Dobson were in Washington, D.C. for National Day of Prayer activities, and there are some very nice shots of the Dobsons with President Bush.
BTW, audio of some of the events in D.C. is here.
In Love? How To REALLY Know
An age old question that remains a mystery to many younger adults. Check out some answers here.
BTW, thanks to Jeremy and Ellie for the photo op.
Encouragement For Moms
My daughter Allie took this shot of her aunt and cousin on the beach at sunset. I thought it captured the special kind of love shared by a mom and her son, as they combed the beach for treasure. It seemed a particularly appropriate photo for this Mother’s Day post.
If you are a Mom and need some encouragement in the parenting journey, here’s an excerpt from Angela Thomas’ book Tender Mercy for a Mother’s Soul which pays tribute to mothers who invest so much into the lives of their children. Audio linked here.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Vote For Dr. Dobson?
Sure, you can vote for Dr. Dobson, although he’s not “officially” running…details are here.
The Prince
My kids have been captivated by the classic “Narnia” series by C.S. Lewis. They loved the film release of “Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe.” And my girls, in particular, are exceptionally enthusiastic about seeing the next film in the series, “Prince Caspian.”
Here’s an unique conversation with Douglas Gresham, Lewis’ step-son, about his relationship with “Jack,” and the legacy left by that great writer and man of faith. You won’t hear this kind of information anywhere else!
Got Teens?
I have three teens, although the oldest is soon turning twenty. Yikes, how’d I get old enough to have a 20 year-old?! While we’re “graduating” one into full-fledged adulthood, we still have five to go. I think by the time we’re done with theis phase of the parenting journey we’ll be experts about what to do - and what not to do - when helping your teen grapple with life.
If you have one or more teenagers I’m certain you’ll find this conversation helpful, based on nationwide research and full of biblical insights and practical application.
Forum Alert! Also for moms and dads with teens, stop by our parenting forum for details about a special appearance by Shaunti and Lisa. Good stuff!

Here’s an online assessment to determine your child’s “ideal weight.” You might be surprised by your results!
Last August…
Last August our family went out for one final hike together before sending our oldest off to college. Here we are on the back side of Pikes Peak. Beautiful!
As I write this post, Dakota is finishing up his first year at Hillsdale College in Michigan. It has been a great experience for him, and we’re grateful for all that God has done in his life during the past nine months.
BTW: If you read my article in the KLTY magazine about preparing your high school graduate for college, be sure to leave a comment below.
