Ah, No Dear

tp-pic.jpgA neighbor’s house was “TP’d” recently. The Charmin was streaming all over their trees. It was a thorough job. Only problem: The intended victims were not home. And within a couple of hours, caring neighbors (not us) were out there picking up every stray sheet of the white tissue paper. There was little damage done, and no lingering effect. Sorry about that.

Ah, but the perps caught word of their fruitless efforts, and soon struck the same house again. And in great style. Paper streaming everywhere. It was a rather windy day that followed, and the effect was somewhat pretty, actually. Which probably was the reason behind my youngest daughter’s question to me the next morning.

“Daddy,” she asked, “Can we decorate OUR yard like that one?”

“Ah, no dear. That’s not really supposed to be there in the trees…er, how do I explain this to you?”

The delightful innocence of a first-grader.

The joys of parenting.

Gotta love it.

Funny! Reminds me of the time when our daughter was a teen-ager and “boys” kept tp’ing us! One time we were gone overnight and by the time we got home and were removing the tp, it was filled with “earwigs!” Are you familiar w/those disgusting insects? We called the boys responsible and made them come over and finish the job!

When I was in high school, our Youth For Christ club members used to TP their fellow member’s homes for their birthdays or other happy occasions. It was an honor to find your house TP’d in the morning! Those were the days of different colors of tissue, too (’70′s). But one night we were TP-ing our staff sponsor’s house for their anniversary when a neighbor called the police. We all had to go to the station and call our parents. The staff sponsor came to our rescue, publicly thanked us, served us hot chocolate, assured all our parents and the police it was good and fun, and all was well. Of course, we all returned the next day to help him clean it up (after enough of the public had seen it first)!

Why does TP’ing seem to be an accepted practice, even amongst Christians? I don’t consider myself a prude, but even in my pre-Jesus days, I never thought this was anything but wrong.

I think its good clean fun. It does no actual damage and it simply takes alittle time to clean up.
