Never Forget 9/11

Seven years ago I watched, along with the entire world, the terrible events of September 11, 2001 unfolding on the television screen. The news on the radio as I was getting ready for work grabbed my attention, and then turned on the TV.

We witnessed some of the horrors being experienced in New York City. Then Washington, DC. And we wondered, where next? What more could happen? What if…?

Today’s Focus on the Family broadcast features a compelling, first-hand account of what one man endured - and survived - that fateful day. Listen, and allow yourself to remember the attacks of 9/11. So you’ll never forget.

What wonderful testimony! I loved his last words before the plane hit. Something like “Lord, I can’t do anyhing now. You take over”:D

I think most Americans remember 9/11, but they choose to move on. Maybe it is human nature, but the farther we are removed from an event the less emotional attachment we have.

For those who survived (speaking of those directly effected by the events) it will be far more ingrained in their lives. But, the reality is the majority only experienced 9/11 on their TVs. We cried, we gave, hung flags and wanted justice, but like all generations we move on and in time forget.

I grew up in the era of the Vietnam war, to my generation it was the greatest moral priority this country faced and at the time seemed like the only thing that mattered. But today most under 30 are even sure what the Vietnam war was. Yet, 30 years later we find ourselves in the same fix with our young people fighting a war that will produce the same results.

I think the old proverb is true. “The only thing history teaches us is we do not learn from history.”

Good word, M Todd. Having spent some time in our nation’s capitol, I think you are right. May we not forget…
