In a recent research study, “Gen Y” moms said they prefer to get parenting information from blogs.
Is that true in your home? If so, why? And, what blogs do you go to for parenting help?

I don’t go to other blogs for parenting information, however, sometimes I DO gain parenting information from reading them even if that’s not why I stopped by in the first place. But I am more likely to gain the information I need from family and friends as well as seeking out input from Focus On The Family, Intentional Living, New Life Live, etc.
It is difficult to find, from Focus on the family or any other reliable source, information addressing the needs of families with children of special needs. To have a biblicly based source of information and advise concerning these issuse would be beyond value. The significant number these families represent, is an entire limb of the body of christ. In many cases these families are unchurched and often have left churches due to a lack of understanding or oppotunity to feel their needs are met or in some cases even welcomed. I know this from three years of advocacy for these families in which I always inquired of their support systems and whether or not they belonged to a church. Churches, on the whole do not do much to draw in this sector of society. The will accomedate, sometimes begrudgingly, but we do less to reach these folks domestically than we do abroad. This is un unfortunate situation but sadly true, especially with the rise in autism and other syndromes and disorders. What can or has Focus on the Family done to adress this? Honestly in 13 years I have found a total of 2 decent books on special needs parenting in Christian bookstores, and they were each unde 50 pages. The secualar world corners this market, and it;s a big and growing market.

Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to comment. I know that Focus has a segment of folks like yourself who are struggling with many challenges with special needs kids. I’ve reminded our own audio team that as we prepare programming, we will do well to remember the kinds of strains and pains you are dealing with.
As a parent of a special needs child myself, I was part of an ad hoc group to explore special needs families. In an informal survey, we discovered that more often parents in search of answers looked first at books and other printed materials. Blogs were seldom mentioned as a place for info witgh regard to special needs parenting.
Readers, any further light you can shed on this apparent need for such parents?
I don’t much care for blogs. Too many blogs make my head spin. I’ve read some very helpful books about parenting by Dr. Dobson and by Motherwise founder Denise Glenn. Most help has come straight from God’s Word. As I read daily, God speaks to me about both general and specific issues that I face and I become a better mother by simply trying to be like Jesus. It’s a challenge. Thanks for asking about this. I appreciate your ministry.
