Lent: Giving Up Facebook?

Here’s a link to a Wall Street Journal article that grabbed my eye. It is about parents who are giving up Facebook during Lent. With two of my kids on Facebook, I am not going to stop monitoring my own account, but now I’m wondering generally about the discipline of self-sacrifice, especially as we approach Easter.
Do you observe the practice of “giving up something” for Lent? If so, from what are you abstaining?

What are those parents thinking?
As far as abstaining, I’ve been abstaining for years!
I have recently joined Facebook as a way to keep connected with what my grown kids and their friends are doing. I also have reconnected with many old friends and even relatives. It has been wonderful, and my kids are tickled to have me as a part of it. I recommend it to parents of older teens.
As for “giving up” something for Lent, our church has never observed the Lenten season or the Advent season per se. As a Christian and as a parent, however, I believe in preparing our hearts with daily scripture related to the respective seasons for at least a month before the holiday. This puts our focus on the things of God, rather than on bunnies and candy.
