Stellan’s Inspiring Story

Here’s a site with some emotion to it. A Mom, her camera and a loving look at her children. Her youngest, little Stellan, has quite a story…so far:

In the womb, he was diagnosed with heart failure: premature atrial contractions at 20 weeks; supraventricular tachycardia, hydrops, and intermittent advanced secondary heart block at 23 weeks; and enlargement of the heart at 32 weeks. When the doctors told us at 24 weeks that our very ill baby would surely die, we chose to give our son completely to God, for He alone knows best. We have not stopped praising our Lord since then…

Hope you’ll give it a look. It is a powerful celebration of life!

In Support Of Stay-At-Home Moms

Earlier this week we aired a broadcast series with Dr. Laura. She had some great things to say about the value of motherhood! We’ve heard a lot of comments from listeners, like these:

Here’s where you can listen to the programs. Let me know what you think.

(Update: See Dr. Laura’s response to these and other reactions to this program in a follow-up post here.)

Common Sense Parenting

Rebecca Hagelin is a friend of mine, and her new book, 30 Ways in 30 Days to Save Your Family, provides practical advice to parents about a variety of issues and concerns. As an experienced mom, I think Rebecca has captured some good ways that we can tackle the more difficult aspects of raising kids. Here’s a portion of an interview she did with Sean Hannity about the book.

Of course, Dr. Dobson has written extensively about parenting, and if you haven’t read his books, here are some starting points:

Raise Autism Awareness

Here in the United States the month of April is designated as a special time for the public to learn about autism and issues within the autism community. From the Autism Society of America website, some practical ways you can help increase awareness of this condition. ASA’s “Eight Ways You Can Celebrate National Autism Awareness Month” campaign includes this idea:

Get bouncing!
After a successful first year, ASA and inflatable playground franchise
Pump It Up are bouncing again with “Bounce for Autism” – a nationwide,
community-based fundraising event that combines family fun with raising
awareness and support for autism in locations that welcome children on
the autism spectrum. Find an event near you at http://www.bounceforautism.org/.

The Art of Raising Sons

A colleague recently commented that he’d been praying over his ability to raise his boy in today’s permissive culture.  “It seems that I’ve been approaching it wrongly,” he said.  “I’ve been praying out of fear and dread of the future as if it were just a matter of luck that God could get my boy through his life without screwing things up!”  He went on to explain that if that’s the way we approach our prayers over our children and our parenting, we’re no better than those who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus and a true faith in God’s power for this life.

Humor With A Message

There are a lot of depressing news stories these days. And the pressures of life seem to be weighing more heavily on folks I know. Everyone could stand to “lighten up” just a bit, and Ken Davis has just the right approach to helping you do just that. His radio presentation is outstanding, and worth 30 minutes of your time. Listen here.

Top Movie’s Immorality

Although it was the top-grossing film over the weekend, Fast & Furious has little to offer viewers hoping for some meaningful entertainment. In fact, it has a lot of elements that are simply offensive. However, it grossed over $75 million – is that reflective of the movie’s non-stop action scenes, or perhaps indicative of the public’s lack of concern about morality in entertainment?

Either way, I hope you’ll help your friends and family members understand why you won’t be seeing it. Here’s the Plugged In review.

Autism Awareness Month

In past posts and on the radio I’ve referenced our son’s condition. Diagnosed with autism, he has received quite a bit of therapy and specialized education. During the past few years we’ve seen remarkable progress in his cognitive and emotional development.

I thought this article brought up some good points, and suggest you read it. If you don’t yet know someone with a child on the autistic spectrum, you probably will someday.
