Looking Ahead

Last week, news was released that Dr. Dobson will be leaving Focus on the Family in February, 2010. As of March, he will no longer be hosting the daily radio program, to which millions enjoy listening every day. As a long-time employee of Focus (18 years) and as the co-host of the broadcast, I’m still digesting all that the news means. It is sad, in many ways. It portends changes here at Focus on the Family, and a period of some uncertainty. Like many, I’m not looking forward to Dr. Dobson’s departure.

There is a season for everything, though, and we’re accepting this particular time as one ordained by God. In fact, leadership changes are a natural part of every organization. Somewhat difficult, yes, for many reasons. But we are not afraid, nor are we shrinking back from the challenges – and the many wonderful opportunities before us. For those of us left with the charge to carry on at Focus on the Family, it is a time for prayerful preparation as we look ahead. We will faithfully follow Dr. Dobson’s good example of doing everything we can to reach families – and ultimately, to introduce people to the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Here’s more on the changes at Focus on the Family from the ministry’s U.S. President, Jim Daly, and two key members of the Focus Board of Directors.

I listened to the broadcast today–Nov.12, 2009. Though I can hear the excitement concerning the future of FOTF, I still do not understand why they feel that Dr. Dobson has not future in it. I am not happy with the board right now. I feel that they have done us all a disservice. Dr. Dobson should have been allowed to continue for years to come. This was truly sad news for me. I still love everyone at Focus, but I am not in agreement with this decision.
